about

Before all this, Another Heaven were in the middle of writing and recording our first full-length album. Now that it's been put on hold, we decided to polish up and share some of the pre-production work we did as a series of new singles. Each one features two new songs (an A-side and a B-side) as well as a solo cover recorded by a member of the band from their home. These songs started as hi-fi demos but now live on as a time capsule of the weird era we're all stuck in.

The first volume features "Knot" (a sadly prescient stomper about the Earth destroying humanity as a form of mutually assured self-destruction) and "Lifted" (a barreling sludgegaze anthem about inducing daydreams with drugs to escape dire economic realities) as well as cover of John Cale's "Big White Cloud" by drummer Aaron Lemay that enlists special guests to re-imagine the original as a psychedelic punk song.

The second volume features Hell (a drifting roadhouse-shoegaze weeper contemplating the thin line between depression-as-living-death and actual death) and Saved (a thrashing continuation of the previous song asserting the importance of the self in a crisis that grew out of the band originally playing "Dream" by the Everly Brothers as a live coda to "Hell") as well as a cover of Dwight Yoakam's "Ain't That Lonely Yet" by singer/guitarist Ali Jaafar that turns the original sprightly country-rock song into a creeping, gospel-tinged hymnal.

Pt. 3 features two slow, heavy brooding slices of atmospheric sludge in the form of "Always" (a dense and wordy meditation on losing a family member) and "Chariot" (a simple, doomy chant) as well as bassist/vocalist Cole Benson'e epic length re-imagining of Neil Young's "Old Man" that turns the original into a straightforward rocker before steering it into leftfield with a heavy, longform noise freakout that unravels over the songs epic-length outro.
